Ok, this is basically a question thread for the debutante ball that is coming up. Feel free to ask any question here, and we will do our best to answer it.
What is a debutante ball?
A debutante (or deb) (from the French débutante, "female beginner") is a young lady from an aristocratic or upper class family who has reached the age of maturity, and as a new adult, is introduced to society at a formal presentation known as her "debut" or "coming out". Originally, it meant the young woman was eligible for marriage, and part of the purpose was to display her to eligible bachelors and their families with a view to marriage within a select upper class circle. This traditional event varies by region, but is typically referred to as a debutante ball if it is for a group of debutantes. A lone debutante might have her own "coming-out party", or she might have a party with a sister or other close relative.
What happens during a debutante?
The Ball begins with the formality of each of the girls & their partners being presented to the guests in turn, usually as each couple walk the length of the Ballroom or Hall an MC may talk a little about the girls dress and also what she likes to do in her spare time. Once all the girls have been presented the group moves into a formation and complete 2 or 3 formal dances, this is basically it for the official part of the proceedings. The dances are usually followed by a sit down meal & more free style dancing for everyone.
What would I wear?
The girls would wear white, floor length dresses, nothing shorter, and white gloves. This is a formal event, and is not the place to wear your wildest or shortest dress. The guys would wear tuxedos of black or white.
